Quest for the Pipe of the Sioux, As Viewed From Wounded Knee, A Lakota Cultural Treasure

This incredible book written by Wilbur Riegert, and published by Ralph (Doc) Hubbard, and Paul Manhart SJ in 1975, after Riegerts death in 1974, is a Tetuwan Lakota-Dakota-Nakota cultural treasure.

A must read for any native studies student, educator or anyone wanting to know the authentic origin, linage, history and ceremonial use of the original White Buffalo Calf (Pipe) Cannunpa Wakan.

This priceless information was given to Wilbur Riegert (Chippewa) in  August 1936 by Martha Bad Warrior, 3rd and last bloodline Keeper of the Cannunpa, at her request to have this information preserved for future generations.

This information was intended for all of mankind regardless of race, creed, color, gender or blood quantum, to be used by all who adhered to Its protocols, and honored the teachings and Cannunpa Wakan, brought by White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman to the Lakota in approximately 1550, so the people would know how to conduct themselves with one another, be able to communicate with their Father, Creator, and prosper as people.

Wilbur Riegert was the curator for the Wounded Knee Museum, and also the allotment agent at the Cheyenne River Agency, and was a dear and trusted friend of the Dupree-Dupris family, with Andrew Dupris being his closest Lakota friend.

The manuscript for this book was destroyed by AIM during the Seige of Wounded Knee in 1973, when AIM took over Wilbur Riegerts trailer home as AIMs Security Headquarters, as AIM looted Native peoples homes, the Wounded Knee Museum of the private and public Lakota artifact collections, Martha Bad Warriors image and information pertaining to the Cannunpa Wakan.

Fortunately a copy of Quest for the Pipe was outside of Wounded Knee being edited for publication, and this is how this information was saved from being lost forever. If you take the time to aquire the book from Adrienne Riegert-Fritze from her website on FaceBook www.facebook.comQuestForThePipe or contact Adrienne directly at quest@adriennefritze.com for a copy of this wonderful and telling book her Grandfather, Wilbur Riegert lovingly compiled for preservation of this information pertaining to the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, Its accompanying teachings, and Lifeways that AIM tried to destroy and keep from you for AIMs personal profit, and which academia refused to acknowledge…but, can no longer continue to do so.

At the back of Quest, author Wilbur Riegert sets the story straight that he DID NOT stay in Wounded Knee during the Seige to protect AIM, he did so to protect this Sacred information from being lost.
