That should have been part of the story.
Now it appears that PBS has helped them/AIM get away with it.
Another fact not mentioned in the film is that most of the invaders were from outside the reservation.
They were not local people with local grievances.”

QUEST FOR THE PIPE OF THE SIOUX
I must not forget I am an Indian as well as you who are
Indian AIM leaders, followers, supporters, sympathizers. I
too have shared the Chippewa heritage, but that I shall share
with all, whether white or red or of other lineage or color
or creed.
Tragic it is when a man will stoop to using his own fellow
men, his neighbor’s property and personal accomplishments,
to gain and promote his own personal aims. Especially
demeaning to his own intelligence is it when he sets to his
own thing with a lack of mental and physical ability. In_that
case, he lowers himself and his supporters to the gutters
of the less than human.

In the destruction that has come upon our village, those
who executed the plan, those who threw themselves into
their following in any way cannot be stripped of their
responsibility for the grave violation of personal, family, and
community rights as human persons, as citizens of the United
States, and as tribal members of native populations.
We for our part felt conscious of our duty to serve our
people and our neighbors, all of whom are Indian except
about five percent. Tourists over the years grew in their
desire to know and share their lives with our Indian people.
To deal with that desire worthily, we concerned ourselves
with their persons and members of their families unable
to come to our people to see and visit them. We wished to
serve this broad interest through various means. Indian
clerks and guides were always available. The grounds were
left always in their natural state. Only foot trails crossed
the coulee where once many men, women and children died
in a dreadful crossfire.
The tragedy of today is the irony in defacing and
desecrating these hallowed grounds in the name of self determination!
Structures dedicated to the memory and
teaching of the Sioux experience, and to educating in the
ways of sharing with the American public the fruits of handiwork
stamped with authentic Siouan values, were demolished
with no evident attempt to check so aimless and pointless
a pursuit.

Nor was the Catlinite Cannunpa lost…if one believes Beatrice Medicine, & Phil Lane Sr…upstanding Tetuwan spiritual Elders and educators.
The Cannunpa was there all the time with Fools Crow, the Cannunpa his Uncle Nicolas Black Elk, and he lovingly cared for and kept safe from harm and ego, hidden yet in plain sight, cared for by the Hunoup speaking Bear Medicine Society Tetuwan Elders….never in the care of anyone else from Martha Bad Warrior and Andrew Dupris to Nicolas Black Elk and Frank Fools Crow…to my Father, Calvin…and, then to me.

Dino Butler was a member of the AIM-IITC interogation squad that interrogated Anna Mae Aquash with orders to shoot her where she stood (June 1975) alledgedly from Dennis Banks, thru Vernon and Clyde Bellecourt and under complete sanction by the Lakota AIM chapter, aka, Russell Means and William (Kill Bill) Means. Dino Butler was present at over 28 AIM Interrogations of alledged FBI informants. Anyone who has implied Dino Butler involved with AIM-IITC ordering him to kill other Indians, has ended up dead, threaten with massive bodily harm after a very aggressive confrontation or simply assaulted from unknown assailants. He was and still is a very dangerous criminally insane killer. Even prior to being recruited by AIM-IITC as a hit man or enforcer. He has given interviews (readily available on the internet search engines) where he boldly acknowledges co-conspiring to set-up lies about what the real activities of AIM-IITC were, or misinform the Indians about his involvement in criminal acts against Indian people, and continuing to mislead any investigation (into a dead end) concerning the AIM-IITC inner circle members ordering the outright murders of innocent men and women they percieved as a threat to them.
Several private investigators researching Dino and company, have raised red flags he may very well be involved with federal agents as a hidden informer and is deliberately offering information which will bring about more uncertainties to closure of the AIM-IITC saga. If we see Dino Butler commit suicide, have 20 days to live from cancer,or suddenly die similiarly as the other AIM-IITC former crew members: douglas durham, vernon belleocurt, robert robideau, i.e. who were all main players and probable potential federal witnesses against AIM-IITC. Then there is sufficent evidence Dino Butler was a hidden federal informant.
In the EK Caldwell interview, identifying who killed Anna Mae Aquash was not important to Dino Butler but he redirected his complicity into a complicated reason of insane babbling. Implying Anna Mae Aquash gave her life rather than someone(s) ordered her death from within the AIM-IITC leadership. Dino Butler knowingly, and willingly, conspired to interrogate, or kill, Anna Mae Aquash as a Federal Informant and further hide the truth with more carefully crafted lies and redirecting serious inquiries of her murder into rhetoric of his 32 years in prison as a poor helpless victim of his insanity.
EK Caldwell: Do you think that identifying the actual person(s) that killed Anna Mae will be of consequence to the true liberation of the People from a legacy of hatred?
Dino Butler: I don’t think that it’s the issue here. Certainly the truth is at issue, but to me, it’s not the truth of who or what killed Anna Mae. The real issue is a lot bigger than Anna Mae or anybody. The issue is survival.
Dino Butler: Anna Mae gave her life for a reason. Our getting involved with each other fighting about who’s telling the truth about it and pointing fingers at each other won’t work. We should confront what really happened to Anna Mae, and what really happened to her is a corrupt values system that is the enemy to all natural life.

The trailer was the home of a man who was confined to a wheelchair named Wilber Reigert. AIMsters pushed Mr. Reigert right out of his trailer into the Gildersleeves’ house and stole his trailer for their headquarters.

Eventually, the pain drove Fiddler up a tower at Green Grass to what he thought was the only remedy. He had gone halfway, crying and yelling at God as he went, the wind howling in his ears, when it occurred to him that “maybe this isn’t the way to leave the world.”
In a moment of reason – or maybe it was just panic, Fiddler said – he stepped back from his impulsiveness.

Well I just wanted to say that my grandfather Elk Head Redhair, my grandmother had said that he taught Black Elk when he was 13 at the Battle of Little Big Horn. I went to Cherry Creek Powwow last night and I thought that it was a Chiefs powwow… and there was a picture of Martha Bad Warrior and I laughed so hard at that up there…. for there was never a woman a chief. Arvol supporters Amos Cook and other people are running the powwow and we have prepared to have a honoring for him and already last night they were putting up roadblocks and don’t want us to have our honoring for my grandfather. What did I ever do to these people I understand they are hateful but there is no reason. I walk my life.
I noticed that I am here in the world helping to fight the wicked and soon I shall be a person in the light guiding my people of the good realm to freedom from all evil. I love to hear your courage and strength. Keep it up Big Sis.

Well my mother is the one that has all the infomation that everyone is seeking and searching. With Martha BW she is from the Hunkpapa and married Eli Bad Warrior from Thunder Butte. She had never recieved the Cannupa Wakan. The Keepers had lived and would die for the right way of this life. They would never ever give the Pipe to someone that is not there on chosen Keeper. They would never give such a sacred item to a woman when the grandfathers/mothers have said to pass it down from Male to Male Generation. According to the records from Aberdeen that Martha had tried to take the Sacred item away from them in the year of 1907. She had made a fake family tree and presented to the Indian Sup. and they took it away from the Keepers. Later the Lakota people had raised a deep concern and protested at the the Old Agency and the Police took it back to the Keepers. Later with in the next two years the two police had left this world unexpectedly. My grandmother that had seen the Cannupa herself had said that they lied to a writer in the 70’s saying that they had it. The writer not knowing of anything believed them and wrote it in his book. That is how the story began(the lies).
Where is the Cannupa? No one knows. Some say that the cannupa is in New York in a muesum said that Martha sold it for 6 thousand. Some say a person has it in Canada. Some say no one has it and it shall just return one day when it is right. All i know that my grandfathers had trusted the great word of their visions and listened to the talk of the unseen spirits. They would never put the sacred item in any hands because if one touches it that is not of the original blood line choosen by the Buffalo then the whole teaching would die or vanish and the Lakota would be like a lost being with no meaning on this turtle mountain.
Their name is spelled Hehakapa-Elk Head. Elk Head he name is Hehakapa had a brother named Iyanke Nunpa. They fought in the Battle of Little Big Horn their father was there as a Head Chief of all chiefs. They were Elk Head 15; Two Runs 14. The cannupa had never left the grasp of the keepers expect the police incident. Then returned later. The Bad Warriors had never recieved nothing. The land that they live on is my Grandfathers’ Martha had made it hers when she had change or try to change the family tree….

Glad you brought that up. Candy Hamilton, like her fellow co-conspirators, would have us believe that the FBI was somehow behind the Aquash murder. But as we now know, the only people “bad-jacketing” Anna Mae were those plotting against her. The agreed-upon story about implicating FBI Agent David Price, repeated by Hamilton, Graham, Peltier, and others, was designed to give the AIM leaders and their lawyers an alibi. The story sure didn’t help Graham’s defense; he will get life without parole.

Suzanne is not a fraud, if the people would only do their homework, and pray about it , then the truth will be known. Think about all of the disparaties of our people and who colletcs money as non-profits, while the people suffer. When did the spiritual laws change? Also, when was the last time you’ve seen a historical photo of an American Indian (i.e. Frank Fools Crow, Black Elk, Sitting Bull), they are always carrying ceremonial pipes in those photos. You get after this woman for making claims on Youtube, yet you don’t have a problem with Arvol announcing his status as the keeper to the world on Youtub

The question should not be weather she’s carrying the Chanupa that she claims but rather the issue of abuse. This video illustrates extreme disrespect for the Sacred Chanupa and the traditions there of. For one, the Chanupa should only be connected when in ceremony. It also should not be used to make sales pitches to sell books for the FBI. Frank Fools Crow was very traditional and would not approve of this disrespect and exploitation.

I have always questioned the validity of our spiritual leaders , “bundle keepers,” because of their own personal history.
