Wilbur Riegert in 1964 tried to get Lucy Looking Horse to stop lying about having the original Pte Hincala Cannunpa Kin. Martha Bad Warrior never passed the Cannunpa Wakan to anyone in her family, because Martha stated when Wilbur Riegert was invited at Martha Bad Warriors request to record this information at Green Grass in Aug 1936, that no one in her family was worthy to carry the Pte Hincala Cannunpa Kin because they were being Christianized, re: Old Man Red Hair Elk Head wearing a cross around his neck while holding his personal Cannunpa, another photo from the SI….
This photo here again was taken by Wilbur in Aug 1936, who in 1964 when he spoke with Lucy showed it to her & pointed out…she was there in Aug 1936 & in this photograph. Wilbur knew Andrew Dupris had been passed the catlinite Pte Hincala Cannunpa Kin, so he asked Lucy to see what she had, she asked for 100.00 for Wilbur to see the Cannunpa Wakan she was passing off as the real pipe, & Wilbur asked Lucy for the description of the Pte Hincala Cannunpa Kin, & she state no, they now had another Pipe the Looking Horses used for ceremony…she also denied even though she saw herself in this pic with her arms crossed, that it was her….
Wilbur left the photo with Lucy when he left…which Lucy gave to her relatives Joe Thin Elk & Belval Jack, who then gave the photo to Raymond Demallie, who then gave donated it to the SI with the wrong information from Lucy attached to the copyrighted photo of Riegerts…this photo of Riegerts appeared in John Smiths research Museum News. Raymond Demallie told HakiktaWin in January 2009, he was with John Smith when Museum News 1967 was done, & though they paid Looking Horses relative to actually see the Pte Hincala Cannunpa Kin, all they ever got was a drawing of it….which is on the cover of Museum News, neither man ever saw the Sacred Pipe in the hands of the Looking Horse family or their Lakota relatives, because It had been passed by Martha Bad Warrior to Andrew Dupris & his wife before Martha died in Oct 1936, & Wilbur was witness to these events…& why all his information was attempted to be destroyed by the American Indian Movement during the Seige of Wounded Knee in 1973…if you do not believe this information, read Quest for the Pipe of the Sioux, As Viewed From Wounded Knee…you can see the truth for yourselves & how Tetuwan Lakota spirituality was attempted to be changed & controled by agents of the US Govt, AIM!
This use of Wilbur Riegerts copyrighted photo, when Demallie told HakiktaWin in 2007 he chose to overlook Riegerts information, yet he donated Riegerts copyrighted material to the Smithsonian with the wrong provenance attached to it…is Intellectual Property theft & copyright infringement…nothing less.
